Bill O'Brien’s Work Suitcase

Cost: $0.00

Postage within Australia: $20

This is a one off item. It’s the small old style suitcase owned by Thomas William (‘Bill’) O'Brien. Bill and his wife Irene are at the centre of our story.

Sure, it’s a little battered, but I’m guessing that it’s at least 83 years old, and we’re all a little worn at that age. Plus, it has a fabulous family history over those 80+ years.

It served three purposes during it’s life. It was Bill’s work suitcase when he moved to Sydney in 1941, with Bill using it as he travelled throughout NSW on behalf of the Farmers and Settlers’ association and during his work selling insurance. After Bill’s retirement it became the place where he stored his important documents. And when Bill died in 1974, it became the place where his executors (his son Cyril and his son-in-law Alf Landsberry) stored the documents relating to Bill’s estate.

The suitcase measures 38cm x 29cm x 10cm. It’s been been photographed and those shots will be available on this website.

As this is the physical suitcase, it’s a one off item. It will be posted to the first person to request it.
