Claire’s 80th Birthday Magazine

On 29 July 2010, Claire Henkes (nee O’Brien) had her 80th birthday. Claire was the 11th of Irene and Bill’s children, and she was my Aunty, affectionately referred to by we Landsberrys as AC.

AC’s milestone birthday was celebrated with a gathering of family and friends at Stormaston House in North Sydney.

For the occasion I got the idea to take a copy of the “marie claire” magazine and turn it into an “auntie claire” version with a special edition for her 80th birthday.

I took the July 2010 copy of the magazine, and replaced the front cover, and two pages with special features about AC. This was the mocked up replacement front cover.

The image below is the replacement page 185. It imagines a world where Claire was a keen user of Twitter (click on the image to expand it).

Then on the replacement pages 266 and 267 there were excerpts from Claire’s diary regarding her birthday. I remember talking to Wendi (Claire’s daughter and my cousin) at the time, and AC had been saying she really didn’t want any fuss for her 80th. Maybe a small gathering. But nothing major. Wendi had her doubts, and these imaginary extracts from AC’s diary reveal her REAL thoughts.
