Kate Landsberry’s Cartoons
Born in an era when art, writing and singing were often seen as a hobby and definitely not a career- especially by my Dad - I was given the option of secretarial, nursing or teaching! When all I wanted to do was art.
Basically, and again according to Dad, a woman’s role was ‘ordained’ to be wife, mother, carer, cook and consort to ‘her man’, and she was destined to a life of being barefoot and pregnant, and spending A LOT of time in the kitchen - and thank God for my ‘child-bearing hips’ that Dad frequently mentioned would come in VERY handy for breeding. 😨
So, being a shy and acquiescent girl (at the time!), I relinquished ideas of Art School and headed off to Secretarial College, working my way up to some great hospitality management jobs in fabulous venues in Sydney and regional NSW and Queensland. Eventually I became a counsellor and art therapist, working creatively with people with major mental health conditions. But art, workshops, and exhibitions were always a major part of my ‘side gig’.
At 60 I finally began a degree in Fine Arts, chipping away on one subject at a time, and I’ll graduate in 2025 – at 71! Better late than never.
In recent years, I’ve had great fun in commenting on life, people and myself via cartoons, which I share on social media for fun! Rob has gathered them all together with some great captions. Hope you enjoy…and if anyone needs a cartoon or caricature for something special…give me a call (0402 287 244)! 😊
So click on a favourite below and it will be displayed as a larger image. And if you hover over the larger image, you’ll see the captions pop up at the bottom. You can scroll through the collection using the right and left arrows.
